RENEWABLE
ENERGY RESOURCES
Mass production of electricity from renewable energy flows
requires technology that harnesses the power of natural
phenomena such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat.
Renewable energy resources contribute approximately 25% of
human energy use worldwide.
For further contribution, Unit Group has initiated a program
for the implementation of turning these environmentally
friendly renewable energy resources into energy, mainly
electricity. The vigorous investment program that has been
initiated for this purpose consists of first, small to
medium scale run-of-river (RoR) hydroelectric power plant
projects in the range of 5 to 40 MW for a total RoR
portfolio of 150 MW. Secondly, as another natural and
renewable resource, acquisition of the rights for an
investment of a wind power plant with a total installed
capacity of 65 MW have been obatined and initial studies for
this portfolio have begun. Last but not least, coming from
deep down, geothermal power plant projects are also in Unit
Group’s interest in Turkey where the potential is one of the
most discoverable and efficient for electricity generation.
Knowing that, the Group has obtained Geothermal Resource and
Mineral Waters Research License in late 2008 for two
geothermal fields in worldwide known Aydin and Denizli.
Preliminary studies for the exploration of resources and
further development of the sites are scheduled to be
executed within the first half of 2009 which will be
followed by the completion of the power plant and
electricity generation. As the potential and technological
resources for other renewables increase, Unit Group will
carry on being dedicated to offer the energy coming from
renewables to human use.
