
UNIT Elektrik Toptan Satis Ithalat
Ihracat A.S.,
a subsidiary of UNIT International S.A., was established as
a commercial entity in Turkey to engage in electricity trade
within Turkey and with cross-border electricity trade to
Turkey from the neighboring region. The main aim of the
company is to be become one of the largest electricity
traders in the region consisting of Turkey, Eastern Europe
and the Middle East.
The Company acquired its
license for electricity wholesale, import and export in 2005
and has been trading electricity within Turkey very
aggressively and in a determined manner, as well as looking
at opportunities for cross border possibilities with
neighboring countries. The company’s wholesale portfolio
consists of captive customers from diversified fields. From
commercial entities to industrial ones, the portfolio is
optimized by examining carefully the customers’ consumption
patterns, size and seasonalities.
Total contracted annual sales volume was approximately
2.000.000 MWh for 2010 and is expected to double in 2011.
With an experienced team of sales, accounting, legal and
operational members along with the expert management team,
the wholesale portfolio is rapidly growing on a daily basis.
CROSSBORDER ELECTRICITY TRADING
With the commencement of Turkey’s ENTSO-E commercial
trade in June 2011, UNIT Elektrik started electricity
trading with almost all of the reputable energy traders in
Central Eastern Europe (CEE) region. UNIT’s Bulgarian
electricity trading company, Group Trans Energy (GTE),
obtained its trading license in June 2011 and became
operational in July 2011. GTE obtained its first
cross-border capacity transfer rights in August 2011 for the
Bulgaria-Turkey direction. The Romanian electricity trading
company, UNIT Energy Trade SRL is expected to become active
in August 2011. The activation of Unit’s Greek subsidiary
for electricity trading, Unit Hellas S.A., is expected to
start trading in late 2011.
The electricity trading arm of UNIT aims to become one of
the major electricity trading companies in the CEE region.
Further to the trading activities which are currently being
carried out in Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece, the
organization is planning to expand its operations from EEX
to Italy markets in late 2011.
