ABOUT UNIT GROUP

It is a story of an energy giant, proudly bearing on its chest a golden years medal symbolizing its development accumulated  bit by bit through experience, creativity and vision. 

Unit Group was founded exactly 33 years ago in Brussels as a trading company. It was a small sized corporation composed of only a few people including its founder Ünal Aysal. However, it had a vision and dynamism exceeding the boundaries imposed by its modest stature.

Today, Unit Group is continuing its operations with its offices in Belgium, Luxemburg, Romania, Russia and former Soviet Republics, Holland, Iran and Turkey.

Unit Group’s objective was to specialize and grow in the energy sector. With a vision beyond limits, it aimed to become an enterprise supplying, building and providing turn-key power plant solutions, a developer and investor, generating and selling its electricity.

Unit achieved each one of these objectives step by step. In 1982, while the war between iran and iraq was still raging, unit realized with huge success the structuring and organization for the international trade of iranian petroleum.

This success caused other doors to open.  In 1984, it started to sell gas turbine parts for power stations in the middle eastern region.

Later, in 1990, it realized its first large scale investments in iran. The supply of equipment and constructions of the Montazer Ghaem, Shaid, Fars and Shariati power stations had begun. These power stations commenced operations in 1993. Unit became renowned in the industry as the foreign firm that made the largest energy investments in iran. The total installed energy capacity of these four power stations in iran is over 2500 megawatt.

This time in 2004, Unit Group commenced the construction of the Rudeshur power station. The first stage of this giant project which possesses a total installed energy capacity of 2000 megawatt is nearing completion.

Ünal Aysal, the founder of unit group also realized energy investments in his own nation, Turkey. In 1999, the Unit Group corporation Uni-Mar completed the 480 megawatt natural gas power station as a founder and investor. This power station was one of the first environmentally friendly investments realized in turkey during that term within the build-operate-transfer model utilizing project financing. Today, this natural gas plant effects sales to the state electricity institution under a 50 year implementation contract and 20 year energy sales agreement.

Unit has become an authority in areas such as investment, project financing, project development, project management, project design and complete turn-key power station construction in its fields of operation in the energy sector. Unit Group is currently operating in energy focused projects, natural gas projects, electricity generation, investment, distribution and trade areas in eastern europe, asia, the middle east and in turkey.

Now according to this, with its 231 mw Arkun hyroelectricity powerstation north eastern Anatolia, Unit Group has commenced its second period investment in Turkey. Its aim is to increase its hydroelectricity capacity to 500 mw in a short period.

One of the most important principle among the corporate motto of unit group is respect to environment. Unit Group highlights the respect to environment and nature in its all investments and project drafts. It produces projects with respect to recyclable energy production which is becoming more and more important in energy sector and unit group takes the necessary steps for making wind energy investments.

On the other hand, in a country like Turkey in which there is requirement for an average annual investment of 4-5 billion dollars to meet the nation’s energy requirements, unit became the founder of an energy consortium under the name of UDDA together with Doğuş, Dogan and Anadolu groups with the object of realizing more comprehensive cooperation in the sector. The total annual revenues of Unit’s partners, the 3rd, 4th and 6th largest conglomerate holding the largest share in its sector in the areas of media, automotive, fuel, food, finance and construction exceed 20 billion dollars.

UDDA’s objective is to take a 20-25% share of the market, achieving vertical integration in the generation, distribution, and trade segments of the Turkish energy market.

UDDA’s first investment project, started in February 2007 through the decision of the consortium, is the 90 mw Aslancik dam hydroelectric power plant.

On the other hand, Unit Group is continuing its investments in different countries in accordance with its vision. The construction of the 107 mw natural gas combined cycle plant in the campagnia region of Italy will be launched in the final quarter of this year.

And the combined heat and power projects developed to serve the heating network of the Romanian cities Bucharest and Constanta will reach a total installed capacity of 500-900 mw when fully completed. The project developed in Bucharest is significant in the sense that it is the first public-private-partnership project in the energy sector.

Unit Group which first began its investments in Romania in 2005 is undertaking to play an important role in the nuclear power station in Cernavoda where the Romanian government decided to increase the nuclear plants energy capacity. Unit Group was designated as the potential investor for the 2.5 billion dollar Cernavoda project together with its partners Dogan and Dogus groups.

Unit Group’s mission is to focus on project development, management, implementation and providing solutions in the energy sector. Notwithstanding its main mission, since 1982, Unit Group has also engaged in another field of operation. With four hotels under its umbrella, Unit Group has a presence in the tourism sector.

Unit Group operates in the Antalya region, visited annually by over 7.5 million tourists. Its five star Ma Biche hotel has a capacity of 690 beds, 345 luxurious rooms, and 6 royal suites. At the same time, ma biche plays a pioneering role in the growth of health tourism in Turkey through its fully equipped thalasso centre.

With its 400 meter shoreline, Park Kimeros Holiday Village has a capacity of exactly 1508 beds. This holiday village composed of 2-3 floor bungalow houses has been in operation since 1985 and was renovated in 2003 with closely monitored modern and technologic developments.

Kiris World Hotel is naturally endowed. With its 2 kilometre coast line on an area of 148 thousand square metres considered to be one of the most elite and special hotels of the region. The hotel has 393 rooms and a capacity of 909 beds and was constructed with the requirements of the most demanding hotel guests in mind. With the addition of 200 rooms planned in 2007, it will become one of the largest and classiest resort hotels of Turkey.

And Istanbul Les Ottomans... This very exclusive boutique hotel was selected by vogue japan to be amongst the world's top 10 hotels. The hotel is a restoration project preserving the architectural structure of the historic Muhsinzade Mansion sitting astride the inimitable Istanbul straits. The technology used in the construction of the hotel was of the top of the top. The hotel has 16 presidential suites and 10 unique rooms. The hotel which was designed for elite and top level guests is now serving its a+ class guests.

Unit Group never forgets that the first step to becoming a global energy power is through being a regional power. With this global vision, as an international company possessing local know-how, which uses its expertise and knowledge in designing projects in an efficient, productive, and rewarding way in the energy sector in the regions it operates, it aims to become a world brand in 2008 possessing on its own an installed energy capacity of at least 4500 mw. In accordance with this, the group’s objective during the institutionalization process is to obtain an iso certificate in the context of the corporate governance guidelines for unit investment bv by the end of 2007.
